Procedures: Time Steps/Activities Organization 8’ Warm-up Say “Hello” to the whole class. Set the classroom rules. ( E.g. Sit nicely. / Be nice. / Listen to the teacher. / Hands up. .) Play the game: Do as I say Tell the students to do as the teacher says, not as the teacher does and repeat playing the game - only this time, when the teacher says 'touch your knees' etc., touch his/ her ears instead, or any other part of his/her body. The students must listen to him/her and do the action correctly. Teacher to the whole class Teacher to the whole class 2’ 10’ 10’ 5’ 5’ 5’ 5’ 10’ 5’ New lesson Sing the “Numbers Song Let's Count 1-10” (Source: A. Listen, point and say.(CD1 - track 2) Use flashcards to introduce the new words. Have students listen to each new word. Have students listen to each new word and repeat all together and individually. Correct student’s pronunciation if it’s necessary. Arrange the flashcards on the board, play audio, and have students listen and repeat. Point to the flashcards along with the audio. Repeat several times. Play audio again and have students listen, repeat, and point to the pictures in their books. Change the order of the flashcards, point to them individually and have students say the words, correct pronunciation when needed. Have students work in pairs, one student points to the picture in the book and the other says the word. Option 1: Play the game "Heads up. What's missing?" Divide the class into two teams. Arrange the flashcards on the board and remove one card when students are not looking. One student from each team calls out the missing flashcard. Option 2: Play "Classroom Touch" Get students to stand up and then the teacher shouts out classroom objects (or picture cards) for the students to run to the objects/ cards and touch. (E.g. T: "Please touch three tables!", "Touch three books!" ). B. 1.Listen and read. (CD1 – Track 3) Introduce the situation: "The teacher asks for the children's home phone numbers..." Have students call out the numbers and people they can see. Play audio. Have students listen and read. 2. Listen and circle. (CD1 – Track 4) Listen and read. Play audio and demonstrate the activity using the example. Play audio and have students listen and circle. Play audio again and check answers as a whole class. Have students work in pairs, practice using the phone numbers that they have circled. C. Listen then practice. (CD1 – Track 5) Have students look at the useful language box. Play audio. Have students listen to the useful language. Have students practice the useful language. Have students practice using other vocabulary from Part A. Play the “Musical chairs” game Have students sit on their seats. Play music and ask them to move around. Take away two chairs and suddenly stop music. Have students sit on any chairs. The two students who have no chairs to sit on will make questions and answers. Student A: What’s your phone number? Student B: It’s What’s your phone number? Student A: It’s D. Sound Changes Isolate. Briefly explain the sound changes. Model. (CD1 – Track 6) Have students listen and notice the pronunciation feature. Play audio and draw attention to the pronunciation feature. Practice. (CD1 – Track 6) Play audio again. Have students listen and repeat with a focus on the feature. E. Now, sing a song. Turn to page 126. (CD1 – Track 7) Play audio and have students listen. Play audio and have students turn to page 126. Play audio and have students sing the song as a whole class. Divide the class into two groups. Group A sings the questions, and Group B sings the answers. Swap roles and repeat. Have students sing the song in pairs. F. Point, ask, and answer. Point, ask, and answer. Have students identify the names and the phone numbers. Divide the class into pairs. Have student A point and ask; have student B answer. Swap roles and repeat. Afterwards, have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class. Practice (optional). Divide the class into two teams. Write a phone number on the board. Have team A ask and team B answer. Swap roles and repeat. ( E.g. Teacher writes "0907-434-525.") Team A: "What's your phone number?" Team B: "It's 0907-434-525." Have some pairs ask and answer about their phone numbers (if they have phones/ or they can imagine their numbers) G. Play the “Magic finger” game. Have students look at the example. Divide the class into pairs. Have Student A ask and draw a phone number on Student B's back. Have Student B guess the number and answer. Have students swap roles and repeat. Give each child a piece of paper Child A asks: “ What’s your phone number?”. Child B answers: “ It’s ...” and child A writes down the phone number. Swap the roles. Once finished, the two children compare the answers. Option 2: Workbook – Page 2,3 Have students do the exercise B of page 3 . Have students work in pairs and compare the answers. Give the correct answers to the students and guide them how to do the remains at home. Students work in pairs. Teacher to the whole class
